What's the plan for the New Year?
7th Dec 2022
We know that ensuring the safety of people on site is of the utmost importance to your company. This is why we recommend you have a robust calibration and service plan for your gas detection systems in place.
Gas detectors play a critical role in ensuring the safety of everybody on site. When properly maintained they are extremely effective and reliable at detecting hazardous levels of gases in the environment.
Why Should I Have a Service Plan?
Your gas detectors, whether personal or fixed systems, are in constant use, and often subjected to all kinds of weather conditions, dust, and dirt. These can all affect the sensor's ability to accurately detect gas. One potential complication is "sensor poisoning" from the likes of external contaminants such as grease, oil, dust etc. And may even be subjected to knocks and bumps during shifts.
There will most likely be Government regulations in place for the provision of safety equipment and you may need to keep a record of calibration and servicing. A lot of devices now keep records of when they’ve been calibrated, too.
If an inspection found that your detectors were not being used or maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions, or in line with these regulations, you could be subject to fines and/or closure of your business.
When your gas detectors are calibrated, it resets the sensor's response against a known concentration of gas, meaning you know they are as accurate as possible and providing optimal safety for you and your staff.
When we service the detectors we are basically giving them an MOT, making sure everything is running as it should and the detection is as it should be. Regular servicing ensures the safe working of the devices for longer. In the long run this can save you money and prevent downtime on needing to replace units.
