The Importance of Maintaining your Gas Monitors
18th Feb 2022
When working in hazardous environments you want to be sure your equipment is working at optimal levels. That’s why maintaining your gas monitors is critical.
Gas monitors, whether portable or a fixed system are there to save your life and keeping them well maintained is an extremely important part of ownership.
Cleaning your gas monitors ensures no excess dirt travels to the sensors, causing errors or false readings.
Keeping the equipment clean and well maintained can also extend the longevity of a monitor making sure your gas monitor is fit for the job.
Point Safety Ltd offers a wide range of service contracts for your gas detection equipment.
How To Clean your Gas Monitors
Gas Monitors contain sensitive electronics that require special care during cleaning.
It is best practice to use non-silicone based wipes to clean your gas monitors as the sensors and sensor housings are highly sensitive.
Using chemicals, including alcohol to clean the sensors could prevent the correct functioning of the device and place you in a hazardous situation.
How to Maintain your Gas Monitors
At Point Safety we recommend testing your equipment before each use and calibrating your equipment every 6 months, to ensure accurate measurements of gas concentration readings, as well as changing internal filters regularly if dirty and purchasing external filters to help protect the internal filter.
We also recommend purchasing a carry case to avoid dropping monitors and checking the components of the monitor regularly to avoid any defects which may result in the equipment not working as effectively as it should.
Without proper regular maintenance, detectors may produce inaccurate readings. This is dangerous as an inaccurate reading may lead to hazardous levels of toxic gas exposure.
To maintain a gas detection system, it is important to inspect each device, conduct a bump
test on all of the sensors, (unless a full calibration is being done) and calibrate (when
required).
Here at Gas Monitor Point our gas detection system servicing and calibration services are available for most manufacturers equipment and sensors
